Agadir Kasbah, Souss-Massa, Morocco

3.5 (1.489 reviews) Spent Ranking #10 in Agadir Historic Sites

Nothing at the top other than the views.

Cable car up and down was fun. Views from the top are truly spectacular on a clear day. Go at sunset. There is literally nothing else to do at the top & you can't go in the Kasbah. 15mins up there is more than enough. Building a waterpark & model village round it at the moment and renovating it all, completion 2024 so it will be a major attraction by then. Worth doing for the views.

A must visit, the only remaining history of Agadir before the earthquake.
The Kasbah is the only remaining part of the original city which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1960, and it has required extensive restoration, still ongoing. You can walk up, it is very steep, or take the cable car, costs 80 dirhams return, enjoy the view as you travel, and when you reach the top you can walk all around it , but not inside. Some say this is because of the restoration, but I was approached by a local who was acting as a guide, and he said it was because the interior was the graves of many of the 15000 who were killed. You can also look down on a large area which has not been developed. and never will be, as it is where the bodies of so many were not recovered, but just covered over. The view from here are stunning, you can see all over the city and the harbours, great for photos. A sucession of boards tell the history of the Kasbah. If you are in Agadir, I think you should always visit this site, and remember the tragedy which hit this city, and admire what has arose in its place.
