The Lake is more than just the Cape!
Most of the reviews here talk about the dragon head statue at the very mouth of the estuary leading from the Songkhla Lake. It is beautiful and well-worth a visit. However, the Songkhla Lake and the Royal Lake (Thale Luang) are unique in Thailand, both culturally and geographically. The area is huge and the waters stretch on forever! Villages around the lake support an inland fishing culture and quaint and picturesque. If you have the opportunity, take a (long) day trip around the entire lake, going up Sattingphra, to Ranot, over to Phattalung and back down again. You might need a good map or someone who knows the area to get the most out of such a trip. It will be about 250 kms and there are many things to see and do along the way!

It is a lagoon rather than a lake.
Songkhla Lake is serene and charming. Even though it is called "lake", it is actually a lagoon. Its water is brackish with decreasing salinity as we travel up the lagoon away from the mouth of the lagoon where the dragon fountain is located. If you have time, visit the island of Ko Yo in the middle of the lake, just a short drive from Songkhla City with bridges connecting the island to the mainland. Ko Yo has a nice Southern Thai Folklore Museum located atop a hill overlooking the lake, the bridges, and the city's shoreline in a distant. Ko Yo also features beautiful temples, cafes, and seafood restaurants.
