    Highlight of Papeete
We walked around the famous Papeete Market and adjacent shopping district, but the highlight for us was the Robert Wan Pearl Museum. We learned so much about the history of the French Polynesian islands and the current-day importance of pearl farming to the region. The exhibits were very educational and entertaining. It's definitely worth your time to stop here. Touring the museum only took about 1 hour and there is no admission charge or fee.

Robert Wan Pearl Museum and store
We were pleased to step into this small museum on our first trip to Tahiti. It was free. It was self-guided, with exhibits and two short videos. It was in an air-conditioned building we found on a hot afternoon! It was a helpful introduction to the history of pearl diving and pearl farming. We were greeted and welcomed to the museum and did not have any sense of pressure to buy. This actually helped whet our appetite to find out more, so we made plans to visit a pearl farm on Raiatea!
