Outstanding 17th C Palace museum.

This 17th C Palace museum was a high point of our tour of Koper. After showing our proof of vaccination and paying 5 Euro for 2 seniors, we were given a floor guide showing its exhibits on 3 floors. Our self tour began with Copper/Bronze age axes, pots, & tools, a Roman volcanic milestone, intricately carved stones from a 9th C convent/monastery, a 1675 dresser with interior drawers, an 18th C portable sundial, and an impressive 17-18th C weapon collection. The back courtyard, passing the pile of stone cannonballs, had an exhibition hall devoted to the struggle of the Slovines from 1861 to 1954.

Worth a visit while in Koper
Many people miss the pleasure of visiting this charming town as they tour the surrounding area like Lake Bled and Ljubljana. However, besides strolling the peaceful streets and enjoying the town's hospitality, there are a few sites that are worth seeing. One of these is the Cathedral and Bell Tower and the other is the Koper Regional Museum. Spread out over 3 floors it traces the history of the region from early archaeological finds to cultural items from the 19th and 20th century. As an additional treat that sometimes host concerts and you can hear and watch the rehearsals at no charge as they prepare for the actual concert. We were delighted to listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons as we took in the museum exhibits.

    Outstanding help
I visited this museum on Sunday 16th October in the morning from our cruise ship. While in Koper I lost my camera but only discovered the loss in the afternoon. The museum we had visited closed at 2pm on a Sunday. We returned to the town and explained what had happened to the cafe staff across the road from the museum and before we knew it the Director came along with his daughter to open the museum, which meant turning off the alarms etc to help us search! While we never found the camera we were just amazed at the kindness and trouble taken by the Museum Director, Luka Jurdi and the help we received from Izabella Levpold at the Tourist Information. I will always remember Koper for it's people and look forward to returning.
