High quality museum for €5! Highly recommend
Hugh quality museum with great English explanations, particularly on mining history and lace making as it relates to war history etc. Really interesting regardless of your pre-existing interest in these topics. Trust me. I consider this one of the bargains on our trip! Also, great shop in the museum courtyard with an artisan making bobbin lace, with a focus on bobbin lace jewelry. Closes at 6pm, only an hr drive or bus ride from Ljubljana...highly recommend!!!!!

Immerse yourself in Mercury for a day!
We started with the museum and were not expecting to be so interested. We expected a small town museum with badly explained exhibits, randomly composed. Not this at all! An orientation talk from on of the student guides and then we followed the route through with a comprehensive leaflet and most exhibit information also in English. This museum covers everything from the mercury mining, lace making, current industry since the mine closed and WW1 - nearly present day (Austro Hungarian Empire, Italian occupation between wars, German occupation during WW11 and a bit on independence.). The guides at the Castle museum are who you book to see the Miner's House, Francis shaft (technology used in the museum) and the massive water wheel (EUR6 per person as the third visit is free). It really is not a hassle as they will fit in with you, as much as they can. The guide was knowledgeable and as we had him to ourselves, we could ask all sorts of questions about Slovenia. Really worth doing all three as well as the museum and the Anthony Shaft as they all help build on your knowledge. An amazing day's leaning.
