Beautiful castle

A very beautiful castle with interesting exhibits on three floors. The castle is well maintained, and the exhibits are very interestingly presented. Outside, various bridges are placed around the castle, each with its own content.

    Dazzlingly beautiful palace
The Pejačević Castle in Virovitica is a fabulous building in the center of the said city. It was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century on the same site where a medieval castle stood. It's a really wonderful edifice in baroque classicist style whose contemplation is a great visual delight in all senses. The colours of which the façade is painted, white and light pink (before the light pink parts used to be yellow) are the most adequate ones for the building concerned. They enhance the beautiful character thereof and contrast conveniently with the roof consisting of red tiles and with the dark grey dome in the middle body of that building, which is, no doubt, its most attractive part. The entrance is in that central part. In the building front that entrance encompasses a round arched portal located at the back of a porch which is marked on the opposite side by eight cylindrical columns with Corinthian order capitals, four on each side of the portal, which support a nice and artistic balustrade. There is no balustrade on the rear side. The façade is anyway stunning. The building central part is topped on the front upper storey with a pediment like semicircular architectural element, the form of the corresponding element at the rear side being triangular. In the middle of each one of the pediments there is a nice round window hole. The said central part of the Castle is on both sides adorned with six powerful pilasters which at its front are situated between the balustrade and the upper storey. The ensemble formed by the aforementioned parts and the rest of both outer façades with their marvellous windows is spectacular, thus worth of being contemplated for a while observing all relevant details thereof. Once the threshold has been crossed the wholeness of the palace hall appears in all its magnificence. The vaulted ceiling of that hall between the entry and the exit main doors is worth being watched as well as the groups of two robust comumns supporting it on both sides of that hall by the staircases. The Castle is surrounded by a marvellous park, which is much larger behind the building, onto which a very pleasant view can be enjoyed from its upper storeys windows. Walking around that edifice on the park in warm and clement weather is also very agreeable. On the day I visited the Castle, September 5th 2019, some renovation and refurbishment works were still going on. That's the reason why I couldn't behold all the items destined to be kept in that stupendous building which must already be in there by now. Even though the interior of the Castle wasn't tidy owing to the renovation works concerned the beauty by which such an interior is pervaded was already apparent even in the said conditions in every single room, staircase, ceiling and, in general, in every single element of the building. In any case I intend to visit it again in March 2020 in the hope that I can fulfill my wish to have actually the pleasure to see all the marvels housed in the Castle.

Nice 1804 Castle, the focus of small Virovitica.
We stopped here after visiting Križnica just 25 km north. The 1804 castle is a 3 winged classic manor with a grand dome but closed today. Its setting is dramatic surrounded by a moated green acreage.
