A nice monument
The statue was erected in 1729-1730. in commemoration of the plunder against the plague which in the 18th century often affected Slavonia. There are a lot of cafes.

A Baroque monument set into a very charming Old Town setting
This plague monument (built in 1729) is easily recognizable as most of Europe is peppered with them in thankfulness to the powers that be, when the Black Death finally passed them all, for good (or at least for now). The monument is gleaming white, very tall, has all the bells and whistles of those in the typical style; it stands prominently in the main section of the Old Town. The monument is flanked by some truly impressive buildings (opulent maybe?) but all very historical. The area is flanked by tables, chairs, outside dining cafe experiences, and everything you would expect from any quaint village anywhere else in Europe. The military complex (ruins) are in the general area (walkable) as are so many fun "pekarna" (bakery) places near by. Everything in the bakery looked excellent. In Croatian, it is called Zgrada Glavne Komande (bracket central command?) and included training grounds. It is described as the head office of the University which was a former seat of the army's General Staff. Some tour groups include a visit here for sight-seeing. It was truly delighful and we would welcome the opportunity to spend more time here.
