Nice spot to visit

I used DiDi to visit there. From the southern part of Taiyuan(near Wucheng Residential District), it took 40min and ¥40 to the closest parking lot. From the parking lot, we walked a few minutes to the ticket office. There are some stores on the way to the office, so I recommend to get a bottle of water and some snacks if you like. A ticket was ¥50 to enter the sight, including round trip bus ticket. Through the entrance gate, bus station is very close. We ride the bus for a couple of minutes. After that, all the visitor must walk to the top of the mountain. The staff told me it would take 40-60min, but I thought it took us only 20-30min to the Buddha. The road was clean and easy to walk, there were so many benches, rest rooms and bins on the sidewalk. I saw some cleaning staff were sweeping the street. I went here on spring, so the weather was just perfect. I enjoyed watching trees and creek so I didn’t feel it was a long walk. When you climb up the last stairs to the top, the Buddha is there. Mesmerizing. Lucky for us, very few people were there. And you can walk up a little more to the top, right under the Buddha. I prayed, took some awesome pictures, and meditated. The trip was something like this. The staff here did not speak English, but if you know there process you will not have trouble.

    Nice half-day trip
This is well worth going to if you are in Taiyuan, in a nice foresty area with little streams to walk alongside. You can see the Buddha from quite a way away, and it is a good feeling to finally get up to it, having been getting nearer and nearer to it for a long time. There are quite a few steps involved, but it is fine for those who are reasonably fit. When you get to the carpark, there is a shuttle bus which takes you to the main entrance, which is where the forestry bit starts. I think it cost about 5 RMB for the shuttle car, but the entrance price itself is free. It is not far to walk from the carpark (max 30 mins I'd say), but it is just alongside the road so the walk isn't anything special. It is quite difficult to get here, so I think the best way is by taxi. But bus 58 goes there too. Bear in mind that this is a bit in the sticks, so there may not be taxis nearby for the return journey - I recommend booking one in advance (if you can read Chinese, then Didi (滴滴出行)is the easiest way to do this). If you are catching the bus back, then walk to the bottom of the carpark and turn left. The bus stop for bus 58 is on the right in about 200m. I'd recommend about 3 hours for this visit, though it can be done in less if you are pushed for time. Name in Chinese: 蒙山大佛(mengshan dafo), or 蒙山景区(mengshan jingqu)
