Jinsi Temple, Shanxi, China

4.5 (151 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Taiyuan Religious Sites

Wonderful gem!

I absolutely loved visiting Jinsi. It was a beautiful day when I went, and the climate was excellent. There is a lot to see there, and it is surrounded by beautiful scenery and a clear flowing creek. There weren't any English speaking tour guides there, but there was ample English to read, so I don't feel like I missed out too much. I would definetly recommend visiting here if you are in Shanxi. Bonus: it wasn't very crowded!

    Jin Ancestral Hall, best ever!
I notice Jinsi Temple, Jinci Park and Jinci Musuem as three separate attractions under the reviews but in fact it they are the same from the photos. More specifically, Jinsi Temple or Museum relate to the historic complex which is the real attraction and there is a park outside. The official english name for the attraction by the Chinese is Jin Ancestral Hall i.e. "Jin Ci" and Wikipedia uses Jinci Temple. Perhaps Tripadvisor can clarify this as it may cause confusions for reviewers. Anyway, the complex was indeed very well preserved and probably the best ancestral hall complex i ever visited interns of building numbers and structures, layout, garden, some really interesting old trees etc. We could only afford an hour here and that was really too rush to fully and truly appreciate the beauty of the place. If you really want to read about all the different artefacts and structures plus time for good pictures, 2-3 hours would be a safer bet. We came during the winter period arriving at 9.30am and it wasn't crowded at all. Hope that's useful. Under 1hr drive from Taiyuan city.
