Beautiful monastery
There's a local saying that one cannot say to have been to Wutaishan for pilgrimage if one does not visit Dailuo Ding. Situated on top of one of the peaks - it has a good view of the Tayuan Monastery and the valley below. There's gondola lifts up to the peak. Pilgrims make a 45mins walk up. Some even prostrate every 3 steps up. Main shrine is dedicated to the Five Manjushris of the five Wutai peaks.

Getting there
It is very near to Tai Huai town, Get to the top of the hill by chair lift. You get a good of of Tai Huai town and scenic view of the surrounding hills.

Shortcut Pilgrimage
The real pilgrimage to Wutai Shan (Five Stage Mountain) requires the pilgrim to visit all the five peaks to offer prayers. But in the old days the emperors always have a busy schedule and the weather may not be helpful. So despite a few visits, the emperor could not complete the pilgrimage. The emperor then told the abbot that he has to ensure that he visits all the five mountains at his next visit otherwise he will be in trouble. So the abbot was deeply troubled by this imperial directive. One day he caught a young monk stealing fruits that were offerings to the Buddha. so he told the monk that in order not to be expelled from the temple, he has to come out with a solution to the emperor's problem. The desperate but clever monk then came up with the idea to situate all the five Buddhas into this single temple, a "Five in One" Solution. So walah, you get this Dailuo Ding which has all the five Buddhas at one location so that the emperor could cheat his way into heaven. So yes, you have to come here if you are unable to visit all the five peaks.
