My favorite spot to visit when in Kuala Lumpur.
I didn't take any tours. I visited Batu caves on my own. Batu caves is easily reachable from the Kuala Lumpur city center by metro train or taking a cab (Grab, etc ). At the time of my visit, the metro station didn't accept credit cards but luckily I had local money to pay for my ticket. Go early!! It gets very crowded, especially during holidays, festivals and weekends. From the metro station, the Batu caves and Murugan temple are just a couple of minutes by walk. There are quite a few restaurants right by the entrance to the temples. Most of these restaurants serve Indian food with some Malay food options. It's better if you carry local money to pay, probably they won't accept credit cards. There are no tickets to visit the temple or caves. You can purchase tickets if you want to do special prayers. There are monkeys playing on the steps up to the cave so just be vigilant and cautious as they are wild animals after all! If you plan to pray or visit the temple, and not just the caves, then please check the temple hours before you go. Remember the temple opening and closing hours don't affect your visit to the caves which are open generally from 7 am to 9 pm. If you are in Kuala Lumpur and have at least half a day then definitely visit this gorgeous place.

Beautiful site but they need to clean it up.
These caves are quite stunning, with an enormous gold statue at the entrance, the Instagram-worthy coloured steps and the temples themselves - both inside and outside the cave. Thus should be a 5 blob marking given the nature of the site but it really is very dirty with rubbish everywhere. It feels very disrespectful given the importance of the temple and it’s current state really lets it down. However I would still recommend coming here - it’s cheap from central KL by Grab (about MR40) or there is a Komuter train which runs from KL Sentral right to the entrance of the complex.
