Awesome!

We booked a trip to Loagan Bunut with Mutiara Homestay Resort. A day before the trip, we were informed the water level was low (2 ft) & were given a choice to proceed or cancel the trip. We proceed with low expectation, well no lake tour. The journey fr Miri took 2 hrs. The road conditions is good except for early part due to a hiway construction. We were greeted by our host, Mr Roland, who took us to his homestay via a boat. Despite low water level, the boat ride from PHQ to the resort was smooth with an awesome views. The homestay is beautiful, unique & very clean. The views of sunrise & sunset from the homestay were beyond words. As there’s no lake tour, we spent our time taking pics, chatting with our friendly hosts (Mr Roland & Mdm Doreen), cooking our dinner & breakfast. We made a good decision to visit the lake when the water is low as it offers a different scenic view. Overall the trip was above our expectations. Will go again when the water level is high.

    Mutiara Bunut hospitality rocks!
It's great for an overnight or day trip from Miri. Drive is pretty easy, about 2hr 10mins from Miri city centre. The entrance fee is really cheap. They have lodgings at the main building, hostel like rooms, I think MYR15 per bed. But we opted for Mutiara Bunut homestay - Mr Roland was on hand to greet us. Super friendly couple and the place is spotlessly clean. Mutiara Bunut have their own WiFi down at the hang out area and even features renewable energy delights like solar powered amenities. I recommend the tour of hte lake by day trip. They will host a fishing excursion if you call ahead, if not, just get the fresh fish from them which they will cook at the smokehouse.

Suitable Day Trip to Unwind Your Stress !
Suitable for day trip from Miri, Sarawak with main attraction of boat cruising around the lake to see the lowly populated villages and also fishermen catching the fishes. Hiking trails are available but the longest trail was inaccessible during my visit due to fallen trees after heavy thunderstorm. Main things you need to know about Loagan Bunut National Park (Dec 2014): (1) Transportation The roads are all paved from Miri to Loagan Bunut Park HQ. You can use car of any size to reach the Park (the information provided in Sarawak Forestry and many other websites related to gravel road and the need of 4WD vehicle is no longer true). You will need slightly more than 2 hours of driving from Miri to the Park (2) Accommodation You may stay at accommodation at Park HQ or locally operated chalet or floating cabin where you could spend the night fishing and BBQ the fishes. The floating cabin is owned by a local fisherman and can accommodate up to 6 adults. Other than being accompanied by local fishermen, visitors are not allowed to fish in this Park (3) Boats There are open but narrow fiber-glass boats that could comfortably accommodate up to 5 people for cruising around the lake (1 hour trip – extra charges for cruising downstream the river from the Lake) or you may opt for the more expensive but bigger boats with shed. (4) Catches by Fishermen Catches (by local fishermen) are plenty when the Lake water level starts to recede (in February, May, June/July) as shallower water gets warmer and the fishes start to migrate out of the Lake. The floating cabin is actually a traditional fish catching station. (5) Handphone Signal You could use your mobile phone there (6) The Park Staff Friendly, helpful, and is willing to help look after of my laptop (too hot to be left in car, and there is chance of water splashes inside the boat)
