Everyone who watches Texas Country Reporter (as we regularly do) will enjoy walking across the bridge used for the show's opening. We approved from the north of San Saba and had to drive a few miles on a caliche road in order to reach the bridge, but the road was not bad at all (we were expecting lots of loose gravel, but that was not the case). Because of structural issues, the bridge has been closed to traffic but it is open for walking (we were there in mid-December). If you are near Gatesville or San Saba, it is worth the drive to experience this 1939 suspension bridge, one of the last of its kind in Texas.See more..

Visited in late December 2020. We had just come from the Regency Bridge where we were able to walk across, and we were expecting to walk across this smaller (but older) bridge too. The 140' bridge spans the San Saba River. It was recently closed and blocked even for foot traffic. But still, if you like to see old bridges, you will want to see this one, which is located just a couple of miles northwest of town. There is plenty of space to park.See more..
