A Modern museum with lots of interactive exhibits

This museum has just re-opened prior to a big launch in mid March and is a real treat. Interactive displays giving the history of Speightstown and Barbados in general. Short films, photographs and a guided tour of the upper floors in an historic building. It covers the slave period, emancipation and the decline and re-development of the area and really brings the place alive. You'll learn a lot about the place and get a free rum punch!

    Small but well done
An unexpected delight. The best of modern museum display techniques tells the history of Speightstown and its local industries. This small museum in a historic building is well worth a visit - allow an hour or so. The ground floor is free, but there is a charge of $25BDS per person to view the upper floors. The building is, untypically, owned by the local National Trust, so treat the fee as a donation to a good cause. You'll probably get a guided tour as the museum is not busy.

Really worth a visit to find out much about Barbados
Interesting museum housed in an attractive old building. You have to buzz the door to gain entry and might have to wait a few minutes before you can gain access. Also if you have a UK National Trust card you get a discount. There is various interesting information on the slave trade, shipping and some oral history about the 20th century. There is also a 5 min.video about Barbados from its "birth" through to present day.which was very informative. I
