Kid-friendly day out in Mainz!
Wonderful museum! The staff is very helpful and there are many displays/exhibits. The museum was free to visit, which is a bonus. Parking can be found across the street and was about 3 Euros for the amount of time I spent in the museum. I recommend visiting during the week to avoid crowds. It is kid-friendly and had many areas for children to color ship-themed coloring pages, create crafts and listen to audio guides. If you have an iPhone, they also have an app you can scan a QR code to learn additional information.

Excellent museum with interesting artifacts
What an excellent museum! It was a bit off the beaten path but within walking distance of where our ship was docked - it took us 18 minutes to walk there. The museum was free, we wore a mask and had to present our vaccination card. There are restrooms and a small store with books but mostly things for children; some postcards. The displays were fascinating to me and the story of the recovery of the ships is also fascinating. There is still work being done and you could see into the workshop. I am so glad we took time to visit. I suggest you go too.

If only the exhibition were fully bilingual!
Admission is free and relics of the Roman boats plying the Rhine probably can be found in this museum only. Pity that the exhibition does not offer full translation in English. Still, it is very interesting just to look at the originals and reproductions of patrol boats and seagoing vessels.
