My favorite place in Germany

When I was a teenager I took part in a youth exchange program and went to Daun every other year for 8 years. One of the places we always went on free sunny days was Gemuendener Maar. You pay peanuts to get in and you can spend the whole day swimming, sunbathing, jumping off the diving boards and peddling round the lake on the pedalos you can rent for about 2 euros. It's perfect for just about anyone, and if you don't want a lazy day there are several trails around the 3 volcanic lakes to hike or ride your bike around. You can also buy hot food, drinks and ice cream from the restaurant and their chips are amazing- the kind you eat from a cardboard tray with a little plastic fork. If you are staying in or around Daun GO HERE! I cannot recommend it more. Take you friends, your kids, your lovers- whoever- and just chill.

    Outdoor swimming!
    This is the first of the three maars in the region. I went by bike, but it is climbing to get there. You can walk around the entirely of the maar, and there is a designated area for outdoor swimming! Because of coronameasures you have to book beforehand on the website. It costs five euros, but there are dressingrooms, toilets, divingplatforms and guards. I am not much of a swimmer, but I had a great time there!

    Even in winter an enjoyable walk round the Maar
    There are several maars close to Daun, and all of them vary in size they are small enough to completely walk round in an hour or more. In winter chose a sunny day, so you get the benefit of the sun falling on the bare trees from low in the sky and creating different shadows. The walking paths are easy and though we both have difficulty whiking now-a-days a good fairly flat walk is very enjoyable.
