Dreams become a reality

The Hermeskeil Museum is only known to connaisseurs, and it is a little bit far off the normal tourists track. For aviation afficionados, it is heaven, as there is quite an interesting mix of Eastern and Western aircraft (civilian and miliatry) assembled in this place. And they are all exposed to the elements (with very few exceptions such as the Ju-52). Another dream fulfilled after having visited several aviation sites in southern Bavaria and Speyer am Rhein. There are many more planes of interest. Many moons ago, my first flight (early 1969) was in a LH Vickers Viscount (and since then, I have been on most of the LH aircraft types from B707, B 727, B737, B747 to various Airbus types). The best is still the A380.

    Amazingly varied selection of planes!
More than first meets the eye here with a large selection of commercial aircraft, fighters, and helicopters attractively displayed. Outdoor collection is very impressive. Definitely not a real Concorde, so what is it? Majority of information is in German but all the measurements, speeds etc. are easy to understand. For British aviation enthusiasts there are a number of recognizable planes, and many with Rolls Royce engines, along with two or three Westland helicopters. We enjoyed viewing the inside of a couple of the commercial airliners from the 50s and 60s. Pleasant place to spend a few hours.

Didn't know they had these in Germany as well, great aviation museum.
Large private collection off various types of aircraft, with an emphasis on Eastern-European stuff, including rare MiG fighters and Russian helicopters. Well laid out, kid friendly.
