DB Museum Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

4.0 (57 reviews) Spent Ranking #22 in Koblenz Speciality Museums

Interesting exhibits, well worth visiting, needs investment

This museum is tucked away in a suburb of Koblenz, on an hourly bus route from the main railway station. Interesting exhibits include dining and sleeping cars from a previous era, early electric locomotives and a collection of steam locomotives. You have full access to many exhibits - more so than at the British equivalent at York. Much stock is not yet open, however; the signposting to the museum from the bus stop is poor and there is no cafe, nor information other than in German. Open only on Saturdays in winter. Will be brilliant and a major attraction when it has more funding.

    Under-rated museum
The DB museum is one underrated museum. We reached there after a short walk; it seems tucked away on the sides of the roads. Entry to the museum is just 3euros per person, and by what we heard, its pretty empty most of the saturdays. The main hall has a collection of the most prominent engines and coaches DB has owned. On the left of the entrance, one gets to know the energy and utility use by DB for its daily operations. The coaches are the luxury ones, while the engines are the steam powered ones. There is also one display of a sliced section of a steam engine. On the left end, there is a museumraume, which contains an array of miniatures, facts about the engines run, coaches, seats, and important moments on various DB trains. Outside the main hall, there is an array of active engines, which visitors can get into, roam, and enjoy out in the open. There is a large miniature run of a train track containing different contours and landscapes. For a locomotive enthusiast, its a heaven; one to spend hours in and just soak in loads of knowledge. A must-visit.
