Cold war history - so good
Cold war history, really interesting, very informative. The tour was in German and I was provided with an excellent English language hand out. They have just launched an 'App' but it didn't work for me. €11 for adult extra €2.5 If you want to take photos inside (and you will!) The tour lasted just shy of an hour and was worth every cent! Touching cold war history and the lengths that were taken to try and protect the German currency in the event of a catastrophic incident with the East be it nuclear, chemical or just a downright attack on the economy. To have stored and ready to go enough printed currency to totally replace the existing currency in 14 days - Wow cannot imagine the UK was that prepared. There is no parking, catch the shuttle bus from the bus station or walk up as we did about 10-12 minutes up the hill and quite a few steps. The staff were welcoming and informative, I understand some German and whilst some information was lost in translation their talk combined with my English guide meant I didn't miss much. If you do nothing else in Cochem - do this!

A Fascinating Trip Back into the Cold War
It is crazy to think of trying to survive a nuclear war and restarting an economy with fresh currency, but that is exactly what you will find here. A truly fascinating journey back in history. The tour was in German, but we were given an information sheet in English, so that we could follow along at each stop on the tour (see attached photo of yellow sheet). It was definitely worth it just to have the experience of walking through this bunker. We also took the Bunker Shuttle from the Enderplatz and highly recommend it. It was hot and there is quite a hill to climb. If you want to walk, you will find a route map in the brochure (see attached photo). This is definitely off-the-beaten path, but very interesting if you enjoy history and want to learn more about the Cold War.
