Funky little museum

I say "little" because the upstairs was closed off--and maybe another wing? Hard to tell, but based on the photos on here, we definitely saw different things/not what other people seem to have seen in times past. Still, it was interesting, and there were some cool old artefacts and good information of the early peoples to the region, their tools, jewelry, etc. Our favorite section (because we're big animal lovers) was the natural history area, with lots of taxidermy birds, amphibians, and mammals of the region. Another fun (and seemingly out of place, haha) part was the optical illusions section. Fun even for adults who enjoy being kids again for a bit. Only 3KM (less than $2 USD) for entrance, and the guy working the front desk was nice.

The main serbian museum of history in Bosnia&Herzegovina
Museum of Republika Srpska is the most important museum of history of the region located in Republika Srpska (the Serbian region in the Bosnia&Herzegovina). Here you can learn about the history of serbs since 10th century until the 2nd World War. It is a very interesting museum, where you can read the Serbian version of the history of the region and their fight against ottomans. Also you can learn about the 2nd World War. In fact, there is a specific area, where you can learn and see very hard photos of the War and concentration camps (not suitable for children). A very interesting museum and very recommendable option, if you go to Banja Luka. It is a pity that Serbians, Croatians and Bosnians do not try to define a common history, and every religious group only explain their version of the history (i.e. in Croatia, the museums almost do not speak about the 2nd World War due to their collaboration with Nazis; and in Serbia the museums almost do not speak about the Balkan War due to massacres, they do against the Muslims). I hope that in a future, these groups can be reconciled. (See also Tvrdava Kastel, Republica Srpska Art Gallery and Christ the Savior Cathedral Church)

Right place to learn more about the local history
Most of the museum is dedicated to local history (however, without dealing with 1990s civil war). Extensive introductionary notes for each section as well as most captions are available in English, too; some of the exhibits aren't well lit. Don't forget to visit the upstairs section dedicated to the crimes committed by so-called Independent State of Croatia against Serb population during WW2. There is also an ethnografic section and a small part dedicated to natural history.
