Great insight.

In medieval Lorca the castle, and under the protection of the Alfonsina Tower, housed the Jewish quarter of the city. The excavations of this neighborhood have made it possible to know the Jewish houses of the time, with a rectangular floor plan, compartmentalized in rooms, and which can be used for living rooms, kitchens, warehouses and other rooms with different uses. Benches attached to the wall, tinajeros, cupboards, raised alcoves, etc. In lorquina Jewry the Hebrews established their synagogue, an exceptional example of Jewish religious art in Spain. The temple was built underground because according to the laws of the time it could not exceed the height of the churches and this, together with the fact that it was never converted into a Christian temple, has allowed the synagogue to remain in an exceptional state. The Archaeological Park of Lorca Castle has been conceived as a space to enjoy the finds excavated in the Jewish quarter through a walk through the streets of the archaeological remains of the Jewish quarter, discover how were their houses, their trades and traditions, And the feeling of Jewish spirituality with the visit to its exceptional synagogue.

    Great insight.
Absolutely fascinating. Lydia is an archaeology student and her passion and interest in the fascination of the dig was infectious. Simple and interesting. Story well told. Well worth the money.

An ancient synagogue that was not converted to a church
A unique circumstance, the fact that the synagogue was left alone inside the old castle and was covered by the earth, permitted that it was not converted to a catholic church, thus remaining untouched. A lot of the original houses of the ols jewish quarter has been also conserved
