Course has seen better days

The award-winning, and championship, Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course is a cleverly structured Nicklaus Design, 18 hole, par 72, 6416 metre, links-styled golf course with no two holes the same. The golf course has been built to international and championship standards, featuring four sets of tees per hole, with shots made difficult by undulating fairways, deep bunkers, wild grasses, olive trees, and water hazards. It has a range of elevations and uses the strongly contoured greens divided into several sections by random dramatic elevation changes, making putting the main challenge. The golf course is nestled in the heart of a beautiful enclave in an idyllic landscape; golfers here can enjoy a truly tranquil round of golf. At Hacienda Riquelme Golf you can not help but allow yourself to be seduced by the fantastic Nicklaus-designed golf course; it thoughtfully combines every type of distance and challenge; designed to constantly push you and to make use of all your resources and talent.

    Unsure
Located at an easy distance from the local airport and easy to find but you must have a car as there is no local bus service. There is a well stocked reasonably priced spar on site and two restaurants and a bar . There are quiz nights and tribute bands at the week end . Tennis courts , a football pitch and outside gym and if you add in the lovely golf course and driving range then it appears to have it all ! However - the drinks are relatively pricey at the restaurant and bar and the service at the scruffy cocktail bar is terribly slow . The main area near the spar is grubby and needs a daily hose down which it doesn't appear to get. It would be best to stay in the area nearest the main restaurant area so you can walk there as there are 1800 apartments on site and it's huge ! Pools are very big (19 of them ) but we found ours could have done with a bit of repair and clean up . A good place to stay - yes probably , but be prepared to have to travel out by car to find anything of interest . Sucina the nearest town has a good supermarket but the restaurants are mainly a bit rubbish a lot of friend badly cooked British food ( except Meson del vino ) and there's nothing else there of interest .

    Tough Golf Test
We stayed at Mar Menor and played 4 golf courses during our week, Hacienda Riquelme, El Valle (Very Good), Alhama Signature (our Favourite) and Mar Menor (very Good) We generally agreed that Hacienda Riquelme was the toughest test of the four courses and therefore the least favoured. If we were to return we would probably play one of the other twice and leave this one of our list but that is not to say its not a good course but just to tough for the higher handicapper.
