Fab visit!

Pretty cool visit to the cave! It was amazing to see the cave paintings. The guide was very nice and although he didn’t speak much English he tried his best to explain things to us.

    A "Must Do"
If you do nothing else in the area you really should see this cave, which contains many images dating from as early as 4000BC plus the remains of a Roman dwelling, plus a fantastic view from the cave mouth into the Segura gorge. Entrance is via a very narrow spiral metal staircase, so if you have mobility problems this is not for you. Anyway you should wear sensible shoes. You can only visit via an organised tour which only run on Saturdays and Sundays (subject to enough people wanting to go), and are organised via the Tourist Info Centre in Plaza de Espana. The tour itself however is a commercial operation. The price was 8 euros for adults with a a concession for oldies. Well worth it. Many of the finds from the caves are to be found in the museum in Cieza - also well worth a visit.

    Interesting but....
The cave itself was interesting with some spectacular views at the bottom end. It is a cave with access via a steep, narrow staircase at the top through the vertical pothole before opening out to a large opening that is in the steep canyon. Rare cave paintings and the remains of a small roman dwelling in it. Negatives: too many people on the trip (it is guided tours only) and the guide spoke as fast as a spanish football commentator (difficult to follow even with reasonable spanish!). Safe but entry isn't for people claustrophobic or difficult on steep and narrow steps. Summary: definitely worth it for the archeology and the views, less so if you want a cave with formations etc.
