Abandoned Mines of Mazarron, Region of Murcia, Spain

4.5 (32 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #4 in Mazarron Mines

Mad Max in Rainbowcolors

We strolled in the abandoned mines. Good shoes required, the area is full of colorful earth and deposites from the mines. The colors are amazing. We stayed on the paths there, as other visitors also advised. It is worth a visit!

    What they don't tell you
Why doesn't TripAdvisor tell you this: It is free. Open access - never closed. Not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. Car park is off a VERY rutted track by the Mazarron 'end of town' sign so possibly better to park in a nearby street and walk. You can access it off a little service road near the AP7 roundabout but you can't easily get far or see much.

    Excellent but beware
I visited the old mine workings in Mazarron. These are old mineral workings now abandoned. The mines were a source of various minerals and the waste heaps that were left are quite spectacular they are multicoloured purple green yellow ochre which are even better after rain. We visited independently but there are now guided walks which is just as well as there is very little health and safety with open shafts and debris around. I would recommend a visit but do go with the guide.
