So much to see
Centrally located. We didn’t pre-book but were able to visit after paying our entry fee ($29) and obtaining a self-guided audio tour. The complex had a shop, café, Outback Regional Art Gallery and a Reading Room. Banjo Paterson featured prominently in the Waltzing Matilda Exhibition (named after his famous Australian song). Interesting exhibits to both watch and read about Australia’s history and way of life including the sheep industry, opal mining, birth of the QANTAS airline, movie industry and the outback. Outside was a theatrette, an old refurbished railway carriage along with various old vehicles, farm machinery, a cottage with old household appliances and items .. the list is endless and just so much to absorb and look at. Great exhibition.

A Waltz with Matilda
This is great tourist attraction if you have a couple of spare hours. There are many interesting exhibits inside & outside the centre. You could easily spend the entire day if you read all the information in the centre. My favourite section was about Banjo Paterson & his bush ballad Waltzing Matilda.

Under the pump no excuse
We called in Wed 7th July, looking for caravan site, joined the q , was given form for “Free” Showgrounds camping. Told to fill it out in the empty cafe and come back. Free for 2 nights was $20 a night no power , but use of amenities. Booked and paid for 2 nights, then we were asking about Australian Dinosaur Centre however while we were being attended to another lady came to our side and said to the lady assisting us , I have a quick question, 5 minutes later she came back to us., she could have asked the person to wait. We found ourselves paying $90 concession for 2 hour Australian Dinosaur, tour at the time not sure what I had booked. The exhibition at the centre out of league at $29 a head. Asked about other activities, directed to brochure stand. No mention of NAIDOC week celebrations, we came across on the Thursday night a free concert in the Main Street with Isiah Firebrace, and a free BBQ hosted by Winton Shire, It was brilliant, but no thanks to the information Centre.
