Not your ordinary ‘museum’.

Welcome to the Qantas Founders Museum. We are an independent not-for-profit community organization and registered charity, operating since 1996, to commemorate the ethos and preserve the material heritage of the founders and early operations of Qantas Airways Ltd. Characters of the early Qantas days, their pioneering spirit and the impact the airline had for all Australians, is brought to life through life size exhibits, historical artefacts and interactive displays including the National Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar. Visitors enjoy informative tours of the Museum's aircraft including the Boeing 707, Boeing 747, DC3 and new Super Constellation aircraft. Visitors can also enjoy the Museum's new Luminescent Longreach night experience. Visitors can also treat themselves to a coffee or a meal in McGinness’s Restaurant and purchase a souvenir from the Founders Store.

Australian Aviation History at its Finest
I arrived at the QANTAS Founders Museum a little late & was told that I'd need several hours to explore the museum. However, I paid the general admission price & was able to enjoy the museum for about 2 hours & still managed to see it all. You can easily spend the entire day here reading everything. There are so many interesting artifacts that in the beginning it can be very overwhelming. There are other tickets available allowing visitors to board the QANTAS plane parked out the front of the museum. The museum is great for the whole family (including kids). There is also a cafe & gift shop onsite. However, I was a little disappointed when I arrived as there was only 1 staff memeber serving & a small queue was forming behind me.

    Platinum Tour - simply brilliant
We did the Platinum tour and as other travellers have said it is worth every cent for those who love flying and planes. The tour of the airpark took approx 4 hours and during that time our wonderful, knowledgable guide Tom explained so many fascinating details about flight engineering and led us over and through the planes on display. Unforgettable and a real thrill! One tip to future travellers: the 4 hours is a non-stop discovery experience, do take some fluid and consider also packing a snack. The airpark itself does not have toilet facilities but it's possible to dash over to the museum while other guests are doing their wing walk if you need to. Our group were all thrilled by the experience but also all very glad to put our complimentary cafe voucher to use at the conclusion of the Airpark tour! The Platinum tour also provides museum access including a re-entry system. We loved this as it meant we could return to the museum the following day when we were fresh and had renewed enthusiasm and enough time to do it all justice. (Tip: afternoons are less crowded in the museum - I was able to hop straight into the 'flight simulator'.) Overall this is a simply brilliant tour for plane lovers; by the end of your tour you will have seen and touched most of the significant steps in the development of commercial aviation in Australia. If you love flying this is something you absolutely MUST do. And a big thank you to our wonderful guide Tom.
