Lake Moondarra, Queensland, Australia

4.5 (133 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Mount Isa Bodies of Water

Beautiful place a short drive from Mt.Isa

Beautiful very large lake 15min drive from Mt Isa & very easily accessible by any type of car. Great views from the lookout and nice short walk along Corella Dam starting next to lookout. The area has a few lovely drives with paved roads & many 4x4 tracks, a lot of picnic spots with tables and benches. Clem Walton Park, a short drive from lookout is well maintained area with toilets & picnic facilities and many resident peacocks. Lake Moondarra is great for water sports, picnics, bird-watching & walking. My only negative comment that I wish there were some maps in the park with information about walks & 4x4 drives, distances & timing. It is a wonderful place in the dry & harsh environment. Highly recommend to visit.

    Worth the short drive out
Lake Moondarra is a beautiful location only 10-15 minutes from the centre of Mt Isa. Take the time to drive the scenic road around part of the foreshore. Nice places for a relaxing picnic in very well maintained areas and you will also see the many resident peacocks.

A choice spot in an arid region
Lake Moondarra serves as the main water supply for Mount Isa and its associated industries. It is clearly a wonderful area for water sports, fishing and family picnics. We also particularly enjoyed spotting and observing a good range of different bird species in the lake area. It’s a lovely place to spend a few hours and a great resource for the people of Mount Isa. Highly recommend!
