Lake Umayo, Puno Region, Peru

4.5 (44 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #13 in Puno Bodies of Water

Beautiful Vista!

Our view of Lake Umayo was from the peninsula that was home to the funeral towers of Sillustani. Peaceful and beautiful.

A very pleasant view of a beautiful lake
We went to Lake Umayo as part of the trip to Sillustani but you will need to climb up past Sillustani to see the lake. From what I could see, this lake is higher than Lake Titicaca and we could all see a boat navigating its way round the lake so possible this is the highest navigable lake in the world. Even if it is not the highest navigable lake in the world the mountains round it give it a charm of its own. After the climb up here with the altitude making things even more difficult it was an absolute pleasure to sit down and admire this wonderful lake.

    Interesting site
The Family enjoyed visiting this site off the beaten path. Bathrooms were less than could be desired so "go" before you Go. Very cool pathway leading up to ruins but it was a bit steep for some of the travelers around but they did have benches and street vendors selling their goods on the way up, so plenty of opportunity to stop and rest.
