Port Washington Avian Sanctuary, Wisconsin, United States

Enjoyable leisurely walk

I visited the Bird Sanctuary while visiting the Coal Dock Park on a daytrip to Port Washington. It is a small but beautiful preserve of land right on the shores of Lake Michigan. The pedestrian-only path through the wooded area provides a nice view of Lake Michigan, South Beach, and Port Washington Marina. Though ample warning signs of shore dangers were posted, there were not any kind of bird information placards posted along the path. Nevertheless I enjoyed my walk in the sanctuary. Depending on the season I believe ample birds will be present in the sanctuary and on the lake waters. The Coal Dock Park which is right adjacent to the sanctuary can be reached after walking across a beautiful bridge.
