Great for a short nature walk

The Savannas Preserve State Park encompasses close to 7,000 acres of natural area. The Savannas contains the largest, most ecologically intact stretch of freshwater marsh in Southeast Florida. Our main entrance, located off of Walton Road, offers visitors a number of ways to explore the park. There, we have an Education Center (Open Thurs-Mon, 9 am to 5 pm), a Canoe Launch and several miles of trails. Most of our trails are multi-use and are open to pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians. The Park has several other entrances including one on Jensen Beach Blvd, which connects to the Main Entrance via a 5.5 mile trail, and an entrance off of Savannah Road that features the Hawk's Bluff Trail. The Park also has two remote locations: Evans Creek Canoe Launch and Miller Property. Evans Creek is located in the 8900 Block of US1 in Port St Lucie. Miller Property is located at the end of Lewis Street in Fort Pierce. This area features several miles of trails.

Nice nature park to walk and bike
Nice nature park to walk and bike. On a Monday afternoon the place was nearly vacant. The bike paths are well marked and the view from the canoe dock is peaceful. A helpful ranger answered all our questions.

    Always Lovely
I've been to Savannas many times and it is a great place to have a walk-about in a very natural Florida setting. Beware alligators. I've never heard of anyone being attacked, but they are there. It is amazing when the shore birds are all nesting on the little islands. It is almost deafening and very very cool. I was with an art group, set up on a wooden deck where you can put in a kayak and I heard a great noisy 'harrumphing' under the deck. Hoped it was frogs but one of the rangers came along and told me it was two big bull alligators favorite place to sun themselves. I quickly moved my easel to dry land!!
