simply the best part of my cuban sight seeing
Cuba is not a very friendly country when it comes to the sightseeing, museum and tours. All is about money, overpriced, very limited access and people pay no attention and have no interest in what they are doing. Hard to meet a passionate guide. Its my opinion. However, visiting this cave was a great time and a guide Fidel was awesome and very knowledgeable. No tourists, 2 CUCs entry fee (unheard in Cuba) with a guide and spectacular cave. Cueva de los Portales was used as a headquarters of western army with Che as a head. There is still his room and bed beautifully adapted in the cave, very little impact and great scenery. We took a taxi from San Diego de los Banos which is a great place to stay for couple of days. Make sure they do not charge you for the entry to the national park (5 CUCs) since you are only passing through and they have no permit or right to charge you for it. there is also another cave you can visit for free around but make sure you bring your own flash light since there is no guide and no day light.

Bird-watcher? one spot to include in your Cuba trip
Cuba, being geographically isolated for such a long time, bears rare and unique animal species which will be a delight to fauna amateurs! One of them: The smallest bird in the world, the bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae): Males measure 57 mm (2.24 in) in total length, half of which is taken up by the bill and tail, and weigh 1.6 g (0.056 oz) Females are slightly larger. You may not want to miss such a wonder of nature in La Cueva de los Portales, San Diego de los Baños, Cuba!
