Wat Luang, Phrae Province, Thailand

Presumably the first temple in Phrae.

The temple is probably the first temple in Phrae. The construction of the temple occured simultaneously with the establishment of the ancient city "Phon Nakhon" (which is nowadays Phrae) around 1200 years ago. The old brick wall at the entrance made us feel like we were entering into the ancient kingdom. We worshipped "Phra Chao Saen Luang", 1200 year old sitting Buddha which was once a principal Buddha image of Phon Nakhon. Then, we walked to the ancient brick structure (ruin) with arch entrance to worship "Phaya Phon", the first lord and the founder of Phon Nakhon. The temple also has a museum which collects many antique artifacts. The temple is highly recommended for ones who enjoy watching Lanna architecture and ancient sites.

    Ok but average temple
The chedi was nice. But the main temple was kind of average. Still ok for short visit. But I found nicer temples in Phrae.

    Beautiful temple and grounds
This ancient and beautiful temple grounds in the centre of Phrae is well worth the visit. There is a 200 year old teak house on the grounds, as well as a museum. Beautiful temple, peaceful, quiet.
