Muzium Kota Kayang, Perlis, Malaysia

4.0 (23 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Kuala Perlis Speciality Museums

Very good but under visited museum

This is a Malaysia 5*. In this part of North Malaysia this museum is absolutely 5*. Perhaps it might not fair so well elsewhere. However it is informative in both BM and English. We have visited twice and both times there was only one other car in the car park. The lady enforcing the RMCO SOPs is lovely and most helpful. The addition of the opportunity to purchase fish food was most welcome to our kids (age 4 & 2). This is a lovely location and a great way to spend 1-2 hours while learning about local history.

    Perlis History Presented Well
We arrived 1 hour before closing and managed to cover the 5 galleries within the time period. Also did a quick walkabout at the tomb stone. We did not walk at the recreational garden located at the back of the fort, although we discovered much much later it was worth a visit. Each gallery had its own focus. While the area was small, I must say it was well presented. My husband and I were impressed with the effort made to enable visitors to learn more about Perlis and its history. We had recently visited Istana Lama Negara (Old National Palace) the week before and Muzium Kota Kayang left a greater impression compared to the Old Palace. Worth a visit if you have the time. There's not much to do in Perlis anyway. Things to know: 1. Entrance is free. 2. Shoes are to be removed before entering each gallery. 3. Air conditioning is turned off to save electricity (probably due to the low number of visitors). Stop by the office and request for a staff to turn on the air conditioning when you are there. 4. There's a nice recreation area behind the galleries.

It was educational but the site is not well taken care
Visited Muzium Kota Kayang recently with my family, indeed all the information and items displayed are very educational but it was not properly taken care of by the state government (i guess) , as there was no one around to greet visitors , the air-conditioning system was not felt at all and making it very humid and hot ! I wish to comment further about this tourist attraction but I leave it to the rest of visitors, as to be fair judgment for all.
