Laguna de Oviedo, Pedernales Province, Dominican Republic

Incredible highlight, do not miss!

Awesome visit. The entrance is on the left about 30mins drive South of Paraiso. There are bathrooms at the visitor centre. It cost me US$100 for a 2.5hr trip inc. boat, boatman and guide. Saw much of the lagoon stopping to spot Duck, Heron, Egret, Gulls, Flamingo and others. Visited one island to see the Rhinoceros Iguana and another to see cave-art, both fascinating. Afterwards paid another US$10 to go swimming at natural mangrove pool. Unfortunately it's unmarked on Rt44 (the locals know it well). Anyway it's maybe 4km north of the park entrance, a rough but passible unpaved track to the right. No fee so I marked it on my SatNav and visited again later - sparkling clear water. Highly recommended trip

    Serenity
Got there early and hired a guided 2 hour boat trip . Only people on the Laguna so the peace and ambiance exceptional. OK the guide was in Spanish , but he had a visual guide to the birds so no problemo. Saw Ibis , Tricoloured Heron , Egrets , Plovers , Spoonbills and Flamingoes etc. Take binoculars as an essential. Walked on an island with Iguanas strolling around.

    A true nature wonder!!!!
Incredible water color, kind of green and white. They have boats and can take you to the islands, where you may see the flamingos, if the season allows it. For sure you will see the Iguanas and lots of beautiful birds. Also you can swim into the lagoon water and take some mud to rub your skin, it will feel good!!!! It is worth it to get there!!!
