Lago Espejo Chico, Patagonia, Argentina

4.5 (205 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #4 in Province of Neuquen Bodies of Water

Beautiful on a sunny warm day

Lago Espejo Chico is (as the name suggests) a small lake. The sandy beach is not very big but usually there are not too many people there. It is possible to buy a day pass at the camping and do an asado for lunch. If not the car can be left in the car park and you can pass the gate walking. If you have a kayak the trip to the other side of the lake is essential. If the water level is normal you can continue up the river to enter an absolutely magical place. There is also a hike to the coast of espejo Grande, but it is overgrown and has to be cleared (2018). Another lovely hike to do in the area is Cerro la Mona. The access road to the lake is rough so drive carefully. Only do this excursion if it is sunny and warm, otherwise you might be disappointed.

Beautiful lake, small only in comparison to others.
Beautiful, calm lake with a gorgeous sandy beach for summer visitors, even if the water is cold it is definitely worth swimming briskly in its waters; the feeling afterwards is really invigorating.

    WHAT A DRIVE!!
One drives down a very dirty road- full of crevaces- GET A JEEP or go slow in your rental. Wild ride- hiking is amazing- 8 hours to the top of the hill and back- one checks in at the guards house and registers- The lake is phenomenal this time of the year- You can see your feet!! A must see- Off the beaten track- Restaurant at the end of the road- great find!
