Evening Visit
We visited Casco Viejo in the evening in order to avoid the mid-day heat. It was beautiful. There was a light breeze off the water and the buildings were coming to life as the lights came on for the night. There were musicians playing in the plazas and people dining outdoors. It was a great atmosphere. We found a restaurant with rooftop seating (there are several) and enjoyed a fantastic dinner. This area is a must-visit to take in the old Panama atmosphere and architecture, even if it is now largely there just for tourism.

Sightseeing
A great and authentic area to visit which contrasts against the newer Panama City. Lots of great shops to explore (don't forgot to buy a Panama hat!), churches to investigate and plenty of refreshment stops! Don't miss getting a cone of flavoured shaved ice near Plaza Simon Bolivar, or taking in the view of distant skyscrapers. Thoroughly recommend the Central Hotel for accommodation and drinks, the Santa Rita restaurant for delicious and moderately priced steaks and Lazotea rooftop bar for a truly Latin American vibe with stunning night-time views.
