    Soft sand beach...
But the insects can be a bit bothersome. The Jeje (black flies) can be bad depending on when you are on the beach. It's the No-See-Ums that will drive you crazy. Stay off the beach early in the morning, and starting at about 4 pm. The beach is very nice, soft sand no rocks, and quit on the week days.

longest wave on the planet - circa 1970
It's been a long time, since I spent 5 consecutive summers in San Blas, Mexico (69-74) , but I have some intense memories. At that time, the right hand breaking wave at Matanchen Bay, was considered the longest wave on the planet, billed as the longest ride anywhere. I had the pleasure of catching it in that condition, for an entire summer of intense swells, riding some of the best 6-8 foot waves I've ever encountered, in all my years of living and surfing throughout California, Hawaii, and Mexico, followed by another summer, almost as good. My friends and I would take turns driving down the beach, to pick each other up at the end of each wave, and drive back to the point we caught the waves at - it was really that long, at least as long a ride as Pavones, Costa Rica. The last 3 summers, we saw almost no surf at all. Back then, it was a very dangerous drive/journey, without much civilization. If you became sick or injured, you were on your own. I've heard that both the wave, and area have changed. For a diversion when there is no surf (often), visit nearby Tepic, for great shopping, & local culture. Worst no see ums/mosquitos on Planet Earth!!! Expect to be devoured, if not prepared. It was worth the trips!
