One of the best museum in Western Amazon Basin..

Extraordinary experience to travel in time and learn about the ancient cultures of the Amazon Rainforest. A personal contact to everyday life of the indigenous people in display. Great place to learn from the descendants of thousand and thousands of years of rainforest culture. Excellent place to start your journey in the Amazon Rainforest.

    Museum visit
Great museum on a disappeared tribe and their artefacts Great layout excellent descriptions They need to have a display of the current tribes living in the area.. Government probably not so keen as they are destroying their forest with oil exploration and drilling

A must visit before going to indigenous communities
In a very nice location on the Napo riverside, the MACCO collections are particularly well presented and explained, and give you a very good introduction before visiting any of the indigenous communities between Napo and Pastaza. The river culture is something that goes back a thousand years (and more) and potteries produced today by local artistsvarebvexctly the same as centuries ago. The presentation with maps and large drawings make the visit accessible even for, children.
