Afton Station Packard Museum, Oklahoma, United States

4.5 (39 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Afton History Museums

Closed permanently

The Packard Museum is permanently closed. And new owners are not open to public. Was once a car place but no more. And new owners would appreciate people stop walking in. There are signs that say no trespassing keep out for a reason. So on your adventure on route 66 this is no longer a stop. But believe me that are doing good things just won't be open to the public.

    Route 66 traveler
I visited the station in 2014, one of the best stops along Route 66. The cars and the history were amazing as well as the lady who was working there that day. People who had visited signed the walls and we bought several pieces of memorabilia there as well as pictures with the packards. It is 2022 and I am revisiting the mother road of the United States and saddened by the closing of this wonderful location. I hope that the current owners will reopen this historic treasure again so that people can get a sense of what we all missed during the grand days of the automobile road trip. I hope that more people take an interest in preserving what is left of the greatest road in our country and that all who make the journey are as moved by its wonderful history as I have been. Get your kicks on Route 66 is more than a saying, more than a song, more than just a ordinary drive for those who are passionate about automobiles and travel. Route 66 is more than just a handful of destinations on a map, it is a journey for your soul to enjoy a simpler, less hurried yet very interesting time in American history. Cheers!

    Pace Yourself
So often I've driven down Route 66 and never stopped by. If you're into nostalgia or old cars then this is definitely a place to stop. The place is packed and I mean packed from end to end with beautiful cars. And that's not even counting the additional building out back! Holy cow. Bring your camera, your cell phone, your tripod or whatever you use. There's also a really nice gift shop too. Cost is 5 bucks. Can't beat it. The pumps out front are original. Across the street is the Route 66 Palmer Hotel building that's been vacant for years. That place overlooked the station and Route 66. People paid extra just to get a balcony room over Route 66! Anyway, I've probably said enough. If not, then... STOP BY AND SAY HELLO! I mean it. This is a great place to look at some classic cars, boat, and trailer. BUT DO NOT TOUCH THE VEHICLES. That is a big no no. See you on Route 66!
