- 4.5 Iriomote Island (501 reviews)
-Adventure, Beauty, Nature
Islands
Iriomote is a remote island in Okinawa Prefecture but it's not that difficult to visit. Visitors first, must fly into Ishigaki then take a ferry to one of two ports on Iriomote. I stayed in Uehara, where the the star sand beach is and it was beautiful. I took a kayak and trek tour for a day and got to drive around the island a bit. The beauty of this island is amazing. Lush jungle, huge mangrove forests, towering waterfalls, Iriomote has it all. I love the fact that most the island is national park and people take great care of the island and wildlife that call Iriomote home. There are signs everywhere regarding the Iriomote cat and to be cautious while driving. Chances are, you won't see the cat but you never know. The beaches on the island were magnificent as well. Many beaches were full of trash which is unfortunate. I plan on coming back here do to the hike through the island. This will forever be one of my favorites places in Japan. See more..

-Kayaking
Islands
Fab sea kayaking with Zamami's Kerama Kayaking. Great boats, equipment, and excellent service from Miami, who prepared the boats, supervised, taught, helped, cooked Okinawan lunch on remote beaches, and helped us to snorkel the corals. Her English helped a lot, with my limited Japanese.. Did 3 day tours, each stunning and great kayaking. Zamami is tiny, 600 people, village atmosphere, buzzing in summer I heard, but beautifully peaceful in January. Enough nice restaurants, bars, izakayas. Good e-bike rental to tour the very hilly landscape. See more..
- 4.5 Kurimajima Island (333 reviews)
-Perfect deserted beach
Islands
There is a beach on Kurima that even most locals dont know about. Go to Pani Pani café on Kurima and ask for directions to the beach. (or go straight passed Pani Pani café and take a left at the mango green houses). The beach is deserted, the sand is perfect, the snorkeling is very decent and the sun that sets in the water will blow your mind. Bring food and drinks because there is nothing for sale for miles. If you're visiting in summer, go to the far right side of the beach. If you visit in autumn, go to the far left. See more..

-More beautiful views
Islands
Not much to see or do on this island except the views near the bridge looking back to Miyakojima. There's a car park with a few small shops selling souvenirs, ice-cream etc and an observation deck which gives great views. A short walk down to a beautiful beach for more photo opportunities! -Holy island of Okinawa
Islands
Kudaka island is one of isolated island of Okinawa. There are a lot of nature, to put it in other words, there are nothing except the nature. If you want to go some places for sightseeing, I will not recommend you to visit this island. Kudaka island is a little different from other tourist resorts. There are no hotels, convenience stores, chain of restaurants, and something like them. So you should not expect something like other tourist resorts. Kudaka island is said to The island of god. It is holy place. There are many place that we can not get in because it is holy place. When I accessed one of them, I felt holiness. And I saw plants that can not be seen at other Japanese place. They are also make me feel holiness. Surely, there are nothing except nature but it was enjoyable for me to stay at there and feel island's atmosphere. See more..
- 4.5 Tokashiki-jima Island (255 reviews)
-Stay on the island and see the whales the next morning.
Islands
Tokashiki Island is a beautiful place! Despite the fact that it's only a 30 minute high speed boat ride from the main island of Okinawa. You can go on a day trip, but I recommend to stay overnight. The stars are incredibly beautiful at night, and you can enjoy whale watching in the morning the next day. There are plenty of whales to see on this island. The guide staff look for whales from the mountain and contact the captain by radio. There is a high probability that you will see the whales. I also recommend renting a motorcycle for a few thousand yen a day and going around the island. There you will find a beautiful, undeveloped, ancient landscape. See more..
- 4.0 Hamahiga Island (250 reviews)
-Okinawa fishing village the way it used to be
Islands
When you are on Okinawa's Katsuren Peninsula, take route 10 over the long causeway to Henza Jima, and then turn right onto route 238 and take the bridge to Hamahiga Jima. Turn right at the T to visit the island's only village. You can park between the houses and the fishing port, by piles of nets drying in the sun, and see all types of fishing boats and dragon boats. A walk down some of the narrow town streets reveals fascinating glimpses of homes and gardens. When you have seen enough of the village retrace your route, go past the bridge to the small glass-bottomed boat, then turn right and go up hill to the parking lot of the island's only hotel, the Hamahiga Resort. Have an iced coffee by the picture window in the big dining room and admire the view bfore returning to the hustle and bustle of Okinawa. See more..
- 4.5 Minnajima Island (233 reviews)
-Beautiful beach. HUGE fishes!
Islands
We got the 1.30pm ferry from Toguchi port (easy to find using google maps) and got the last ferry back (4pm). Depending on the time of year , there are between 2 and 8 ferries a day. The main swimming area was relatively busy (around 50 or so people). Parasols, chairs and other beach stuff is available to hire. We saw some amazing varieties of fish without leaving the cordoned off swimming area and a few absolutely huge fish which made our day. Worth the journey out if, like us, you didn't have time to make it out to the Kerama islands . See more..

-Highlight of my trip
Islands
Travelled to Zamami Island twice while visiting Okinawa. First time by fast ferry (50 minutes), 2nd time by regular ferry (2 hrs). It was by far the best experience that I had in Japan. 2 days at the beach and since it was off season, virtually no one around. While snorkelling saw a Black Tipped Reef Shark, many varieties of fish, and the largest Green Turtle that I have ever seen (compared to Hawaii and Mexico). Food places are only open minimal hours, with only one very small grocery store available on the island. I recommend trying to have lunch as I had the best Okinawan Soba and the coldest beer of anywhere in Japan. See more..

Made up of the 3 uninhabited islands of Kuefujima, Nagannujima, and Kamiyamajima, this area consists of striking white sand, an abundance of corals, tunnels, arches, drop-off dive sites, etc. and is home to a variety of diving environments. - 4.5 Taramajima Island (55 reviews)
-Full of memories
Islands
Stayed only two days and one night in Tarama-Son but I was deeply impressed by the tranquility here. It’s better rent a bike and travel around the island. So you can stop anytime and anywhere. When I saw there’s a way to the beach I would stop and stay for a while. It’s hard to do this if you drive as you can’t just leave your car along the road. I did not see anybody in the beach and I really felt relaxed. Vending machines are available along the main road but better prepare more drinks in the summer time. Taramajima has a flat contour so I didn’t feel exhausted after some hours of cycling (and it’s a small island). Watch out the goats while you are cycling, they will be scared. When I was on my bike, the villagers/farmers talked to me and cheered me up (it was too hot), the villagers are really nice. The passion of villagers is hardly seen in cities. They are happy to talk to you. And thanks to God, the weather was extremely nice during my stay. In sum, Tarama is a nice place with nice villagers. Last tip: if you have seasickness easily, choose flight instead of ferry. This is very important! Thank you Tarama. Hope I can stay for a little longer next time :) See more..
- 4.5 Minami Daitojima Island (43 reviews)
-Minamidaitojima, an attractive travellers destination !!
Islands
The island of, which is over 30 square kilometers in size, is a very special piece of Mother Nature. It originated some 48 million years ago, when coral atolls at Papua New Guinea became increasingly above sea level and eventually formed an island, which then moved to its current position at a speed of 5-7 cm a year. The island has no beaches, but more than 100 caves and should therefore be seen as a giant hole cheese. As a result of erosion, soil was created, where sugar cane is grown today. The crop surfaces can be seen very well from the Hinomaru Mountain Observatory and that tower should therefore be on everyone's program. The island has many places of interest that can be visited during a half-day tour. Three days is enough to include also cave's. Finally, the island is more of a travelers goal than a vacation destination. See more..

-A Great One Day Getaway
Islands
Twice I've hopped on a ferry and made one day trips to this island and I'll probably go again. The people are friendly and it is just a quick ferry ride from the main island of Okinawa. As long as the skies are blue and you have a camera, you will have a blast. Walk the whole island or, rent a bike for a nominal fee. If you like exploring, beaches or taking photos of nature and wildlife, you can't go wrong, visiting this place. Recommended to all my friends who would like to get away on a one or two day excursion. See more..

-Great spot for snorkeling!
Islands
Highly recommend this as a 3-4 hour visit for great snorkeling and relaxation on beautiful tiny island. Good variety of colorful tropical fish. Be sure to bring/rent a beach umbrella, as there is no shaded area. And bring plenty to drink/eat. Wasn't sure what to expect but ended up being a highlight of our trip. Some of the visitors were feeding the fish, so they were accustomed to people and would swim within inches of you, one large fish even sucked my hand looking for a treat. Reasonably priced as well. - 4.5 Iheyajima Island (31 reviews)
-A great place to relax and enjoy local life especially during festivals
Islands
A small island (and the northernmost inhabited island in the Okinawa prefecture. Two 1.5 hr ferries daily from the main island and you can also take the car with you. There are lots of events and festivals going on throughout the year which the most famous one is definitely the moonlight marathon that happens in October every year. Stunning view along the shores especially the western side of the island. See more..

- 4.5 Ukabijima Island (3 reviews)
-サンゴの砂でできた島
Islands
See more..
