WORLD CLASS MUSEUM

We were astonished to find a truly world class museum in the small town of Santa Cruz. The collection is wide ranging, well curated and logically organized. We spent 2 1/2 hours there and, if we hadn’t reached a certain saturation point, could have spent even more time. Our understanding is that the ticket is good for 24 hours so it would be possible to return refreshed on the same admission fee (which, in any event, was quite reasonable). One particularly informative and emotional exhibit deals with the rescue of 33 miners trapped 690 meters below the surface for 69 days in 2010. We highly recommend a visit.

    This is no ordinary museum.
It is a very comprehensive exhibit about the history of Chile . It even has a real train and train station complete with ticket office.I learnt about the history of Chile and all the various conflicts in the past. There are extensive exhibits on Charles Darwin, mining, local history, local people and on and on. It is fascinating and you could spend several days there. I am not an avid museum visitor but we spent 4 to 5 hours on a fairly superficial tour. It is fascinating and superbly presented.
