Bigger than I thought

Come to the Lunenburg waterfront and experience the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. Within the walls of a former fish processing plant the stories of our fishery come to life. The Marine Life Gallery explores what lies beneath the waves, other galleries tell the stories of the Mi’kmaq Fishery, Inshore Fishery, the Banks Fishery and resulting Spin-off Industries, while paying respects to the hardships of the Stormy Seas. Step on the deck of our flagship, Theresa E. Connor. Take in our daily presentations on Lobster Lore, The Bluenose Saga and the Model Schooner Launch, as well as other special features.

    Fun for everyone
Our family especially loved the first floor exhibit with the fish. The 2nd and 3rd floors offer different exhibits including boat models and other historical artifacts associated with nautical lifestyles. It was worth the cost and requires about an hour for a briefer walk through checking out just parts of higher interest. To take everything on you would need much longer.

Bit chaotic but worth the effort
This a friendly but tad chaotic three-storey museum about the crucial fisheries industry in Atlantic Canada. The ground floor is a bit of a mish mash, with several tanks empty rather than containing fish. The second floor contains a concise and informative history of the fisheries and how it gradually developed. It also underlines how dangerous it was and is. The third floor is devoted to the Bluenose, a famous a Canadian schooner that won high-profile races against U.S. rivals a century ago.
