Clean and friendly.
We live about 2 hours by car from Vassiviere but it was worth the trip. Beautifully kept lake and surroundings. Because the lake is so large there are a number of sites around the Lake and so we didn't get around all. Auphelle was the area we visited the longest. Lovely beach, cafe and if you wish free water taxi to the island in the middle of the lake. There is also a play area here for small children. We will revisit and I think stay in a chalet for a couple of nights.

amazing
This is a huge lake. Their are many different activities available from the sandy beach for children to play on and paddle in the water to water skiing for the more adventurous.

Family camping by the side of Lake Vassiviere
Imagine the Lake District warmer, emptier in August and without the mountains. Perfect for us, swimming around the lake, exploring the lakeside on foot and bikes. Plenty of activities to choose from. Cycling around the wider area was the most fun I've ever had in lycra. The campsite at Auphelle provided large pitches, the staff were helpful and arranged croissant each morning, though there was little in the way of camping equipment nearby so go fully prepared. The art gallery was, erm, esoteric but the island it was on was a great spot for picnics and exploring. Not many Brits, just friendly French mainly. Highly recommended.
