St. Mary's Church, Northern Poland, Poland

City Centre piece
There is enough room in this massive cathedral for 25,000 people and it remains one of the three largest brick built churches in the world. The highlight for me is the incredibly ornate monuments, the walls are literally covered with them. The main organ is especially ornate and beautiful. You can of course climb the very high tower for amazing panoramic views of the old town.

Bazylika Mariacka
Originally built during the 14th century, and modified several times in the following centuries, St. Mary's Church was heavily damaged during the WW II bombing of Gdansk. Restorations were started after the war, and some works are still ongoing. St. Mary's Church is one of the three largest brick churches in the world, and inside the church there is room for 25,000 people. It is in Gothic style. My first impression upon entering the church was that it was not very interesting. Then I started walking around the naves, and viewing the side altars, and my first impression was totally reversed: every side altar, every side chapel has wonderful pieces of art, including several polyptychs, statues, an astronomical clock from 1464, burials... One of the most interesting churches I visited.
