A very tasteful recreation of WWII history

The WWII museum is Gdansk is definitely one of the finest attractions the city has to offer. For 29 pln entry, the museum showcases an in depth exhibition of how the war unfolded both from a Nazi Germany perspective and a Soviet perspective. The exhibitions are presented in chronological order making the experience much more fluid and enjoyable. I would also recommend purchasing an audio guide for 12 pln before you enter the main exhibitions as they point you to interesting parts of each exhibition room that you might miss, and provide more detail around some of the work on display. Not only is the museum visually appealing in terms of its architectural style, it is incredibly informative and engaging in the way it presents its exhibitions. I learnt things about Eastern European Geography that I never previously knew. Definitely consider visiting this place if you are in Gdansk. Leave yourself at least 2 hours to get around as there are lots of exhibitions.

    Fantastic Presentation of History
This is a fantastic and sobering museum. Very spacious, well laid out and with clear explanations in Polish and English. You see photos, films, and actual relics. Really well staged and brought to life. There’s a special wing for children. It’s truly a must see attraction when in Gdańsk. However, it’s a victim of its own success in that it gets very crowded in the morning, especially on rainy days. I waited about an hour to get a ticket (free) and then wait to be admitted. (They limit admittance to ensure the exhibits aren’t too crowded). Almost no chance of getting an audio guide (modest charge) then as they are all sold out. But the exhibit is well laid out and you can find your way with no audio guide or map. It got a bit less crowded at lunch time and by the time I left at 5 pm there were very few people. I’d therefore recommend on timing your visit for mid to late afternoon to avoid the crowds—especially if it’s raining and everyone decides to head to the museums. I’m a history buff and it took me 5 hours to visit reading all the explanations and viewing the material on display thoroughly. And this was without listening to the audio guide. I’d therefore recommend visiting after a good breakfast or lunch as I just saw a small cafe type place serving soups, salads, cakes and a pasta type meal of the day. Don’t worry about having to leave the exhibits to use the toilets. They have thoughtfully provided toilets you can use at several points of the exhibition halls. And please do also visit the Solidarity Museum, which is even more well done.

One of the most comprehensive museums on WWII
More than one person had told me this was a must-visit as this was, at least in Poland, the best WWII museum. I can now say I completely agree. It's also, perhaps, one of the best museums I've ever been. I was especially impressed that it didn't focus solely on World War in Poland but it took us through all the stages leading to the war across the entire world and the many locations where took place. Unfortuntely we didn't have time to take the audioguides and had to rush our visit in 1h30min but I would recommend at least 3h to properly explore all the museum has to offer.
