Excellent experience

We believe that the experience of the Polish road to freedom gives us civic energy even today and that the heritage of Solidarnosc (Solidarity) is still a source of invigorating ideas for Europe

    Historically relevant
I loved the museum, it was very special for me to be in the place where such historical events have happened. The entry fee was 30 zloty. The museum is located a bit far from the center, it is possible to go on foot for around 25 minutes or also with a tram. There are toilets, possibility to leave your jacket and you get free audio guide which lasts 1.5 or 2.5 hours, you can choose. I took the long version. It was very well explained but in the exhbits there are also videos to watch so you can easily spend more than 3 hours there. The only bad thing was that one of the rooms is under renovation so there was no way to understand how the martial law ended in Poland and how it became a democratic country. This was disappointing. Maybe they could have put some explanation in the next room, where Walesa is presented as the president.

Brace yourself for an emotional rollercoaster, as you follow the ups and downs of the shipyards workers struggle. Superb
We walked to the museum on day one of our visit, and from the outside, we were not sure if it was open, or even if it was the right place so didn’t go in. Read some reviews that evening, and went back the following day, so pleased we did. It is one of the best museums I have ever visited. Mind blowing!!! Having been in my early twenties back around the time of the solidarity movement forming, I recall how the events at the Gdańsk Shipyard were world news for weeks/ months on end. The museum took all those news headlines from my past, and like jigsaw pieces, put them all together to make a distant memory into an emotional rollercoaster as it told the story of the collective impact of the shipyard workers on the world. Not to be missed.
