History at its best

We spent a few hours at this mainly outdoor museum and found it very interesting. Great to see how life was not so very long ago and how people lived and what utensils and tools they had to cope with. Facinating, a true history lesson.

The best outdoor museum in Finland
I have been living and traveling around Finland for the last 20 years and seen many of the museums with the old buildings but I must admit that this was hands down the best! All of the buildings were well preserved and the interiors were well staged demonstrating how it actually functioned. Many things were well labeled and was most interesting to se the history in this manner. I gave a real sense of how life was lived. The inside museum was pretty great as well full of many fascinating items. If you are driving through this area this is a real must to see, I would highly recommend this place.

Check out the ancient life in Finland
If you are interested how people lived in Finland some time ago, begining from 1700-1800's, this is a good place to get somekind of idea about that. You will find many different kind of houses (about 70), from different times. A lot of tools, for farming, forest wor, etc. The museum is situated on the banks of river Lieksajoki, opposite of main Church, and only about 1km from lake Pielinen. You can reach the museum by walk, or by taxi (or by bicycle if you have one with you). This is second largest open-air museum in Finland
