A must do!

This is a must do! Dress up in Dutch traditional clothing and have your picture taken at a very reasonable price. Basic package for 2 persons that consists of 2 copy of the photo in A5 size costs €14. We also got this voucher coupon from the tourist Centre in Volendam that give us a free cd-rom with all our photos. It was quick and easy and we are done in less than 20mins but waiting time for the photo to be processed takes about 30mins.

greatest souvenir you'll bring back--photo of yourself in dutch costume
As soon as you depart the bus to Volendam (get your Waterland ticket via Arriva that you catch on the upper floors of the Centraal Station), walk towards the water's edge and you will see the main strip. There are 3 or 4 places where you can do this with varying backgrounds and varying costs, I am sure. There is one (it was closed this particular day) where you get all dolled up and can sit in a wooden shoe. But, we opted for Foto de Boer and it turned out great. We walked in and they had the photo prices and packages (1 8X10 shot for two persons was 17 Euros or you can do 2 5X7 for the same price) right there. You just tell them which one you want to do and they have you go upstairs, where the costumes and backgrounds are kept. For women, the costume is more of a velcro slip on type of thing with the Dutch cap and you put on wooden shoes. For men, sort of the same. She will pose you and set up the background and the picture is taken. The whole process takes maybe 10 minutes for two persons. Then, you come back in an hour and pick up the photos. Boom! The best souvenir you will take back.

    Nice but be careful
The first thing in my mind when l visit Holland was l had to take picture with Dutch traditional clothing. A friend of mine recommended De Broer as one of the oldest foto shop. I read some of the reviews here and there, so l chose this place to take pictures with my family. Besides photo outlet, De Broer has a souvenir shop on the first floor. The price is OK, even cheaper compare to some other shops. The process of getting a picture is also well-organized. However, one thing that really needs to be carefully considered by both the owner and the customers is the security. On our visit, my sister lost her bag with all her valuables. Fortunately, she kept her passport with her body bag. She put her bag in the locker, but there was no key available. But we felt safe, so we just put all of our bags in 2 separate lockers. One with key and the other one without key. After the photo session, all of our bags were there but her bag was missing. Since the place is perhaps always pretty much crowded, the owner should make sure that the key for every locker is always available, so that the customer can safely keep their belongings in the locker. Also, perhaps having Recorded CCTVs would also be a good idea, in case there's something wrong happen during the photo session and also for the sake of security. For the customers, you will be asked to keep your belongings in the provided lockers. Make sure that the locker has a key for your own safety.
