Lovely little cruise on island filled lake
As part of our composite ticket from Floraholland we had a cruise on Westeinder Lake with Westeinder Rondvaart. The boat, capacity around 20, left from an obvious location in the harbour, with the captain a solidly friendly and informative character. The cruise was mostly among the tightly packed islets, each with its own economic or recreational activity. The story of how the lake evolved and is maintained was fascinating, and he was really good with questions, even our stupidest, "Is the water salt or fresh"? In answer he dipped a mug over the side and invited us to try a drink…. A very pleasant way to spend an undramatic hour.

Aalsmeer cruise
See Aalsmeer from the water with a slow sail around the islands dotted around the Westeinderplassen ("West End Lakes"). Take in the sights of the various harbours as you make the approach to the maze of islands where you can see the ones filled with Lilac trees owned by local growers or recreation ones that are owned by boat owners. The tour is given in Dutch but the captain is more than happy to answer any questions in English. Combine the trip/ticket with a visit to the Historic Gardens and you've got yourself and nice inexpensive activity.
