Beautiful Dagestan - Virtual tour My husband and I recently signed up for our first "virtual tour" of Dagestan with Beyond Red Square. We had no idea what to expect, but enjoyed it so much we signed up for another one in Chechnya. Our guide was personable and kept the pace moving. He changed the format throughout our time to keep it interesting and interactive. After participating in this virtual tour, now we would like to go in person and feel much more prepared, if we decide to do that. Thank you Beyond Red Square for such a great experience.

Very nice landscape
It takes about 3 hours from Grozny by car, the streets are very good and well maintained. There is a check-point before the last mountain incline where you have to register if not done by tour agency, but its a quick thing. The nature is beautiful and there are historical ruins to visit in the near area. You can also do watersports in summer, barbecue, horse riding etc. When we were there the lake was frozen, but its also a beautiful picture to see the lake frozen and the mountains around with snow, so I recommend also off summer season to visit the place. There is a tour base hotel (Hotel Kezenoy) where you can stay overnight as well. They also have little huts for just renting it for a day to make barbecue or parties.

Beautiful lake, the drive is tough!
This is one of the top attractions in Chechnya outside of Grozny. The last hour of the drive is not for the faint of heart, as it is a very windy road up into the mountains. Definitely has potential for people to get car sick. That being said, the lake is very beautiful and this part of Chechnya is gorgeous. The mountains are not as sharp as other North Caucasus republics. If you have time, make sure to visit the Hoi village ruins a few km past Kezenoi-Am. We visited in the winter and it was incredibly beautiful once we cleared the snow and fog because of how high the mountain road climbs up the mountain.
